The Quinn Library Catalog 411
Aren't sure how to search? Check out the tutorial below!
If you want to use the catalog from home, here's a quick tutorial on some basic steps. Not only is this a great way to practice searching, but you can see what we have in the library for your next visit!
First, visit library.dps.org. This takes you to the catalog homepage.
I know the name of the book I want!
If you know the title of the book you want, type it into the FIND box. Then click the TITLE icon. To the right is an example of a search for the book Green Eggs and Ham.
If we have copies of the book in the library, it will show up on your SEARCH RESULTS page. The search result below says we have "1 of 1 available." This means we have one copy in the library, and it is available for you to check out.
If it said "0 of 1 available," that would mean we have one copy, but someone has checked it out so it's not available right now.
I want a book by my favorite author, or I want to know what other books you have by this author.
If you know the author of the book you would like, or you want to know which books we have by a certain author, you can use the AUTHOR search. Type the name of the author into the FIND box and click the AUTHOR icon. On the right is an example of a search for books by Jeff Kinney.
The SEARCH RESULTS page will show you any books we have in the library by that author.
I just want to see the books you have about a certain subject. I don't know any titles or authors.
Sometimes, you need books about a certain subject or topic, but you aren't sure what the titles are. You'd just like to see what kinds of books we have on that subject. In these cases, you would use the SUBJECT search. This is really helpful for reports or school assignments!
Just type the subject into the FIND box and click the SUBJECT icon. On the right is an example subject search for "butterflies."
Your search results page will show you all the books we have in the library that are about your subject. We have a lot of books about butterflies! Our search results page is two pages long!
My search had no results! Does this mean the library doesn't have what I'm looking for?
It's possible that we don't, but just in case, ask the LMC staff when you visit. It may be that you searched for something else, or a certain book didn't come up. Always ask for help!
